About
Youth Week steering group
Published byFor Youth Week 2010, Te Ora Hou in Whangarei formed and supported a youth steering group in conjunction with NZAAHD to oversee and consult on the Youth Week campaign. This group of vibrant and amazing young people (mostly Maori) had their first meeting in Dec 09. This succesful meeting led to the launch of the theme for Youth Week 2010 = Rangatahi Ora= Whānau Ora. The steering group said that whanau connection is really important to them as young people, and contributes positively to their identity, self worth and self esteem (which is supported by the findings from the Youth 07 report and initial findings from the Youth Connectedness research). When young people are connected to their whanau, they are well, and their whanau are well.
The Youth Week theme is based on the whakatauki "He tina ki runga, he tamore ki raro. Contentment above, strongly rooted below." The theme and whakatauki are the foundation of the Youth Week resources, to be released end February.
This year's Youth Week challenge is for all whanau to strenghten their relationships with rangatahi in their whanau.
Kia kaha, kia maia, kia manawanui. Tihei mauri ora!
